Rectificatie - nieuwe eindstand
Beste voetballiefhebbers, de standen verschijnen nogmaals omdat de 4 doelpunten in de verlenging niet bij het totaal aantal doelpunten horen te worden geteld. Immers ze tellen ook niet bij de wedstrijduitslagen mee.

Hierdoor veranderen de prijswinnaars (nummers 1 t/m 6). Wij feliciteren de winnaar Alles komt goed met zijn voorspellende gaven. Podosforo, Lucky Bartuz, Bend It Like Beckham, NicoT en StarWars tenslotte zijn de overige prijswinnaars.

Hopelijk hebben jullie de EK pool allemaal erg leuk gevonden. Jammer dat Nederland niet zo ver is gekomen, maar met Spanje als kampioen kent het EK een prima winnaar.

Eind augustus worden de voorbereidingen getroffen voor weer een nieuw seizoen Super11. Tot dan!

Euro2008.com evaluatie
Op euro2008.com staat een leuke analyse van Nederland op het EK. Je kunt allerlei statistieken per land opvragen als bijv. percentage aanvallen, percentage schoten op doel, overtredingen etc etc.

Hier alleen de evaluatie van Nederland, lijkt me duidelijk...

Oranje buckle after bright start

Three wins, nine goals scored and just one conceded – the future looked bright for the Netherlands after the group stage. However, that was before Marco van Basten's men ran into a disciplined, incisive Russian outfit in the quarter-finals in Basel.

Potential

The Oranje will be able to take positives and negatives from their campaign. On the plus side they can take heart from the amount of clear-cut chances they created – albeit not against Russia – and the fact that the key players in their squad who performed so well in the group games, the likes of Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie, potentially have their best years ahead of them. The Dutch had 78 attempts on goal (including blocked shots) over the course of their UEFA EURO 2008™ campaign, at a very healthy average of 19.5 per match. Furthermore, 31 of these were on target, significantly more than semi-finalists Germany (20) and Turkey (15).

Busy keepers

However, chances were equally as forthcoming at the other end. Edwin van der Sar (three appearances) and Maarten Stekelenburg (one) made a combined total of 22 saves, at an average of 5.5 per match, the fourth highest of the 16 competing teams. Indeed, in the Oranje's game against Les Bleus – despite the 4-1 scoreline suggesting otherwise – Raymond Domenech's side were on top for a spell at the start of the second half and squandered at least two promising opportunities to get back into the match. Thus, perhaps, a defeat was never too far away.

Approaches

Italy (4-3-3) and Romania (4-3-3) both fielded adventurous formations against the Netherlands, leaving Van Basten's attack-minded players room to exploit. Russia, though, kept their shape well and the Oranje's lack of genuine width was evident as their first-half formation from the tactical lineups show (click here to view). Although, it did not affect their progress from Group C, the Netherlands ended the tournament having attempted only 33 crosses – significantly fewer than Russia (51), Germany (49), Italy (46) and Turkey (45). Against their quarter-final opponents, the Netherlands were largely confined to shooting from distance. With a lack of width and no evident Plan B against disciplined opposition, the Dutch went home before many observers, neutrals and partisans alike, were led to believe they would after such a promising start to the tournament.

Regerend Europees kampioen Griekenland staat een moeilijke klus te wachten. Nog nooit slaagde een titelhouder erin zijn titel te prolongeren. De Sovjet-Unie en West-Duitsland waren er ooit dichtbij. Maar de Sovjet-Unie verloor in 1964 de finale van Spanje en West-Duitsland ging in 1976 in de eindstrijd ten onder tegen Tsjechoslowakije.

Welkom bij de EK Pool
Het is weer zover: nog 17 dagen en dan begint het EK. Doe mee aan de Pool en maak het EK nog interessanter. Volg dagelijks de wedstrijden en kijk naar jouw voorspellingen.

Hoe beter je voorspelt, hoe meer punten je scoort. Hoe meer deelnemers, hoe meer prijzen. Alle inleg wordt uiteraard uitgekeerd, deelname kost 5 euro.
